County raising property taxes during recession

Yes, that's right. The Prince George's Co. Council is planning to raise property taxes by 10%. They passed PG-414-09, but it has to go through the Maryland General Assembly to allow it. There have been several news articles about it: Prince George's Council Supports Tax Hike by News Channel 8 and Council Supports Johnson Tax Hike Proposal by the Washington Post.

The Gazette says, "The proposed change would cost the average owner of a $246,000 house about $235 more next year.".

Added to this, there is another bill MC-PG 116-09 which would also raise another line on our property tax bills for the Washington Suburban Transit Commission

Our representatives in the Maryland General Assembly can stop these increases. Write them:Collapse )
