Slot forums

Whether you are for or against slots, you deserve to make an informed decision on the ballot question on Nov. 4. MD Comptroller, Peter Franchot is against having slots in Maryland. He's presenting a forum which is free and open to the public, but funds are being accepted to go toward anti-slots advertising (yard signs, radio and TV ads, etc.) The event will be held tomorrow at 6:30-9:00 p.m. at the Colony South Hotel in Clinton, MD. This will also be aired on WPFW 89.3 FM on Thursday October 9, from 9-11. Speakers:

Confirmed - against
Delegate Aisha Braveboy Dist. 25 Prince Georges County
James Proctor the III, Community Activist
June White Dillard, President, Prince George's NAACP
Confirmed but not a panelist, Marvin "Doc" Cheatham - President Baltimore City NAACP

Confirmed - for
Diana Saquella, Chief Lobbyist, Maryland State Teachers Association
Carol Hyson, and Michele Lewis, Lobbyist AFSCME

Another forum with both proponents and opponents of slots is being sponsored by the Young Democrats, the Gov. Oden Bowie and Greater Marlboro Democratic Clubs on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 from 7:30-9:00 p.m. at the Knights of St. John Hall, 13004 12th Street, Bowie, MD 20715.
